Sustainable Med | Berlin

Praxis for functional and holistic medicine.

What does Sustainable Med stand for?

To me, Jan Okoye-Weeg, Sustainable Med embodies a holistic, naturalistic and personalized medical approach, aiming to unlock all resources to achieve optimal health and enhance performance. As a biologist (B.Sc.) and sports scientist (M.Sc.), I bring an additional perspective and in-depth knowledge to my role as a neurofunctional medical practitioner, focusing on orthomolecular medicine, manual medicine, and applied kinesiology.

My services are for individuals and athletes, but I am also actively seeking collaborations with other health professionals and cooperates to integrate a medical dimension into their existing practices and companies.

Comprehensive Health Solutions

Cure & Relief

Do you often lack energy or have vague disorders without finding a cause or cure?

Prevention

Are you seeking guidance for a healthier lifestyle to prevent sickness and increase longevity?

Athletes

Are you an athlete, who wants to take your game to the next level?

Perfomance Enhancement

Are you eating well, exercising, and mindful, but still seek improvement?

Regardless of your state, my goal is to provide personalized, holistic medicine to relieve symptoms, prevent sickness, improve your quality of life, and enhance performance.

My therapy regime evolves around the concept of:

Functional Medicine

FM focuses on identifying the root causes of disease and performance reduction, rather than just treating symptoms. It emphasizes a patient-centered approach, considering the individual's unique genetic, biochemical, and lifestyle factors.

Orthomolecular Medicine

OM involves maintaining health and treating disease by adjusting micronutrient levels like vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, amino acids, phytonutrients, and pre- and probiotics, which are naturally abundant.

Applied Kinesiology

Applied Kinesiology (AK) relies on manual muscle testing as a holistic approach to examination and therapy. Through specific muscle tests, it evaluates neuromuscular control and identifies any dysfunctions.

The Algorithm

In our fast-paced society, the body copes with stress for a long time before signaling depletion, even for high-performing athletes. Excessive waste and limited resources can cause sickness, injuries, or reduced performance.

To prevent waste buildup and provide proper fuel, identifying and analyzing factors affecting us is crucial. Regulating them optimally fosters longer, healthier, and more active lives, enhancing overall performance. These factors mutually reinforce each other, as shown in the model.

Adapt Stressors

Analyse and eliminate potential harming stressors.

Training Load

Exercise with the correct form and dosage.

Recovery

Improve recovery by optimizing sleep and rest periods.

Nutrition

Provide body with the right fuel at the right time.

Mindset

Maintain and care for mental hygene.

Diagnostics

  • The goal is to not only get a deep insight of your medical history, but also of your weekly routines. Therefore the Health Screening touches the fields of:

    • General well-being

    • Mental state

    • State of health

    • Leisure & work

    • Sport & performance

    • Nutrition & Digestion

    • Supplements & medication

    • Recovery & Sleep

  • The physical examination mainly focuses on:

    • the musculoskeletal system

    • digestive system

    • neurological system

  • Applied Kinesiology (AK) involves manual muscle testing and serves as a holistic approach to examination and therapy. Through precise muscle tests, it evaluates neuromuscular control and identifies dysfunctions.

Using Applied Kinesiology, we pinpoint the root cause of muscle control irregularities, frequently stemming from injury patterns like accidents, surgeries, or dental procedures.

Subsequently, we address the effects of injury patterns on the body through the Injury Recall Technique (IRT) as per Becker and Brunck's methodology.

  • Regularly monitoring blood parameters with your doctor is vital for early detection and prevention of health issues as well as monitoring or increasing performance. It enables timely interventions and adjustments to treatment plans, promoting overall well-being and longevity.
The following parameters can be analyzed:

    1. Macro- and Micronutrients

    2. Cellular Metabolism Parameters

    3. Stress Level

    4. Immune Response

    5. Allergie Screening

    6. Mitochondrial Health

    7. Multisystems disease

  • Constant stress is considered to be the cause of numerous illnesses. Whether burnout or cardiovascular complaints, muscle tension or sleep disorders, a weak immune system or various chronic illnesses can also be caused by constant stress. The ability of the autonomic nervous system is crucial for a healthy response to existing stress and for the subsequent reduction of stress. However, constant stress quickly leads to an imbalance in the VNS. As a result, we not only feel tired, but also permanently tense and unbalanced. This can have long-term consequences for our health and personal well-being. With the help of a VNS analysis, the regulatory capacity of the VNS can be measured and assessed within seven minutes. As a preventative measure or as part of an effective treatment of existing stress consequences.

Optional Treatment

  • a. Listing of Different “packages” like “Hangover”, “Detox”

  • The active sensorimotor insoles are soft and flexible (bendable) and are made individually after examination of the foot. Through them, the muscles of the foot are activated and strengthened with each step. As a result, the foot actively straightens and thus the muscular tensions of the musculoskeletal system can be re-coordinated. The result is an improvement in posture and a resolution of muscular imbalances. The costs for these insoles are not covered by statutory health insurance and must therefore be financed privately.

  • Intestinal rehabilitation is a process aimed at restoring normal intestinal function in individuals with dysfunction. It involves strategies to enhance nutrition, promote intestinal adaptation, manage complications, improve quality of life, and provide long-term support. This may include specialized diets, enteral or parenteral nutrition, medication, and multidisciplinary care. The goal is to optimize intestinal health and reduce dependence on artificial nutrition or invasive treatments.

Optional Diagnostics

  • Your essence is defined by what you can absorb, not simply by what you ingest. Hence, it's crucial that your gut microbiome maintains an appropriate composition. This is particularly significant for individuals experiencing persistent symptoms such as diarrhea, constipation, bloating, gas, and chronic fatigue, among others. We can evaluate your gut health based on the following factors

    1. Mikrobiom Diversity

    2. pH of the digestive tract

    3. Silent Inflammation Markers

  • 1. Cellular Metabolism Type

    2. Determination of biological age

  • Insoles are used for the prevention and therapy of foot disorders. They can correct postural defects and physiological movement patterns and thus influence the function of muscles, gait and posture.

The primary goal should always be to activate and strengthen the patient's own foot muscles ("short foot according to Janda, PSF") in order to straighten the transverse and longitudinal arch of the foot again.

Consultation & Treatment

  • a. Personal recommendations for lifestyle intervention changes to increase performance, delay onset of ageing and diseases in all 5 building blocks:

    i. Nutrition

    ii. Training

    iii. Recovery

    iv. Mindset

    v. Stressors

    b. Inclusion into personal network to connect with peer groups in order to achieve goals.

    c. Presenting Health Tech Solutions that are proven and paid by health insurance (DIGA) to achieve goals.

  • This medical intervention involves a tailored nutrition and supplementation plan designed to address specific health needs and optimize overall well-being. The plan includes a balanced diet rich in essential nutrients and personalized supplements to correct deficiencies, support immune function, and enhance physical performance. By integrating these elements, the intervention aims to promote long-term health and prevent disease, providing a comprehensive approach to patient care.

  • By using the Injury Recall Technique (IRT) according to Becker and Brunck it is possible to treat the effects of injury patterns on the body.

  • The so-called fascia distortion model is an independent diagnosis and treatment system in which the patient's pain description is the basis for manual treatment.

FDM is an effective method for treating pain in the musculoskeletal system. Through the body language as well as the pain description of the patient, the therapist is immediately able to help the patient specifically with manual techniques.

In FDM, the complaints are traced back to fascia deformations, which are corrected by manual hand movements, sometimes with great use of force. If the deformation is corrected, an immediate improvement in resilience, mobility and/or pain reduction can be expected. Long periods of rest are usually eliminated and a rapid return to activity is possible.

The treatment is sometimes very painful and not infrequently associated with bruising.

  • Dry needling is a relatively new simple form of therapy for the treatment of pain originating in the muscles and fascia (myofascial pain).

The reason for the development of muscle pain is usually an acute or chronic overload of the affected muscle, traumatic overstretching or direct injury to the muscle. The direct lesion of muscle fibers (trauma) or a long-term increased muscle tone (e.g. due to incorrect posture but also due to psychological factors such as anxiety and stress) are often the starting point for the development of muscular trigger points. These then become clinically manifest in the form of pain. For example, people with sedentary jobs often complain of pain extending from the shoulder to the neck and head, caused, among other things, by persistent poor posture at the seat.

Dry needling uses sterile disposable acupuncture needles to therapeutically stimulate tense muscle fiber bundles (trigger points) that can be felt with the fingers and are sensitive to pressure pain.

An acupuncture needle is inserted directly into the area of the contraction nodes with fan-shaped guidance of the needle to trigger local twitch responses. These are activated until the trigger point stops working, which means resolution of the contraction nodes.

The lightning-like contractions of the (muscle) hard-tension cord (twitch response), which are visible or palpable locally, are experienced by many patients as releasing but also sometimes painful. The familiar drilling pain disappears quickly, and mobility can improve immediately - if it was limited due to muscular reasons. What remains is a feeling of heaviness in the needled region - like a sore muscle - for usually 1-2 days. Afterwards, a significant relief of the region occurs.

Acupuncture is one of the main pillars of Traditional Chinese Medicine and one of the oldest treatment methods of mankind. At the center is the idea of a flowing life energy Qi, which influences all functions of the internal organs such as breathing, digestion of food, body defense or even muscle movements.

  • The vast majority of complaints in the musculoskeletal system are due to functional disorders. A functional disorder exists when, for example, the joint is intact in form and composition, but its function is disturbed.

Manual medicine is fundamentally concerned with restoring the mobility of these functional disorders, such as the restricted mobility (blockage) of the spine and joints, but also of the fascia and muscles.

There are several therapeutic options available to the trained manual therapist to address these dysfunctions.
